It could be possible for future games to use generative AI to render backgrounds, weather patterns and even fire propagation in a way that feels authentic rather than programmed.

Other developers are less enthusiastic about generative AI, which they see as potentially serving to minimise the creative contributions of human designers. This is particularly worrying for smaller developers who are concerned that their game might not stand out from the crowd if it appears to have been created by an algorithm rather than a human artist.
